Art Play & Explore (3-6 years, Parent & Child)

8 week class for Parent* & Child.

3-6 years ( age as a guidance, please email us if you think your child would enjoy but is slightly younger) If you are interested in this class for an older child, please email hello@littleartberlin.com

Overview:

Nurture you and your child’s growth together, through a weekly creative adventure. We curate a person-centred environment to disconnect from phones and connect the senses mindfully with your child, through a process orientated art and creativity LAB. We invite you to have fun and explore together through the building blocks of art. The weekly changing and open ended workstations range across 2D and 3D ( eg drawing, printing, painting, clay, collage, sculpture, overhead projector art), using art, nature and recycled materials. Through an inquiry based approach, we allow experimentation without ‘traditional’ art borders, fully encouraging possibility thinking through creative tinkering, making, inventing…. however forms, shapes, ideas can be imagined. Perhaps starting with a workstation of paper, string and scissors, you will begin intuitively overlapping into craft, design, engineering or other art forms, eg giant puppets, sound sculptures. We are intentionally open ended to promote building of confidence through creative play. We may work independently or collaboratively, on a journey through uncovering the unique magic of the materials and tools presented. The educator works alongside you offering gentle support or offers starter techniques, stemming from your interests. An organic flowing process, embracing new ways of connecting with each other, and in expressing ourselves mindfully through forms and marks we create with our hands.

Why is is art and creativity important for children and their parent/carer?

Process-orientated art is a great regular habit for parents and their children alike, to ignite creative curiosity again often lost through the hectic pace of everyday life, the benefits simply undervalued or concerns over ‘mess’ in kindergartens. Experimenting with processes awakens our confidence in problem solving, risk taking, and specifically in children develops gross and fine motor skills, as well as improving hand eye coordination and sensory perceptions. It allows parents to get comfortable with allowing their child creative freedom, really noticing the child’s perspective, not interrupting or blocking their means of self-expression, but joining them where they are at. Feeling trusted enough to follow their interest improves a child’s confidence and self-esteem, reduces anxiety and secures bonds. The adult also experiences an opening up of their own inner child, mindfully experimenting with materials alongside their child, improving their own mental wellbeing.

This class is for you and child if:

You are interested in you both exploring your creativity

You are interested in gentle, mindful parenting styles

You are interested in discovering creative play ideas to take in your family home life
